In Canada, “eavestroughs” and “gutters” are often used interchangeably; both refer to the channel at the roof edge that collects and directs water. We use both terms because homeowners search both ways, and because the underlying system is the same: a drainage channel that must be properly sized, pitched, supported, and maintained to protect your home from water damage.

New Gutter Installation
Complete gutter system design and installation. We start by calculating the optimal gutter size (5” or 6”), downspout placement, and pitch for maximum drainage performance based on your specific roof geometry. Every installation uses hidden hanger systems for structural strength, sealed joints for leak prevention, and proper integration with existing or new downspout routing.
We inspect the fascia condition before mounting any new system—rotted or damaged fascia is replaced first because no gutter can perform properly on a compromised mounting surface.
Gutter Repair
Targeted repairs for specific failures without replacing the entire system. Common repairs include:
- Sagging sections — hangers replaced, pitch re-established, and structural integrity restored
- Leaking joints — old sealant removed, surfaces cleaned, and professional-grade sealant applied
- Separated sections — reconnected and resealed with proper overlap and fastening
- Ice-damaged profiles — deformed sections replaced and hanger spacing tightened to prevent recurrence
- Loose or missing hangers — upgraded to a hidden hanger system where possible
- End cap leaks — resealed or replaced depending on condition
When repair estimates exceed 30–40% of the cost of a full replacement on a system older than 15 years, replacement is usually the more economical decision.
Gutter Replacement
When repair isn’t economically viable, we remove the old system completely, including all hangers, spikes, and fasteners, and install a properly sized replacement. Replacement is recommended when gutters sag in multiple locations, joints leak at several points, the aluminum profile is deformed from ice or impact, or the underlying fascia requires structural repair.
Replacement is often coordinated with roof replacement for efficiency; the eavestrough system is typically removed during a roof tear-off, making it the ideal time to install a properly sized new system.
What Happens When Gutters Fail
Gutter failure is rarely dramatic. It’s a slow, progressive deterioration that causes escalating damage:
Stage 1: Reduced Flow
Debris accumulates, sealant begins to fail at joints, or the system settles off pitch. Water flow slows. You may not notice anything from the ground.
Stage 2: Overflow & Backing Up
Water begins overflowing the front edge during heavy rain. More critically, it backs up behind the trough, saturating the fascia board. The fascia begins to rot from the hidden back side.
Stage 3: Structural Damage
Rotted fascia can’t hold the hanger screws. The gutter sags further, increasing the overflow. Ice in winter adds weight, accelerating the pull-away. Eventually, sections separate and water falls to the foundation.
Stage 4: Foundation & Interior Damage
Water pooling at the foundation leads to basement moisture, erosion, and settlement. Inside, water intrusion at the roofline can stain ceilings, damage drywall, and promote mold growth in the wall cavity. The cost of maintaining or replacing gutters is a fraction of the cost of repairing the damage caused by failing gutters.
